Beyond the Fog

Beyond the Fog

Driving home in the indigo hues of a mid-spring evening
A golden sunset gently simmers behind us,
nearly going unnoticed
But for the girl in the backseat of the car in front,
who is seemingly filming us, as my lens points back
Our eyes never meet
I’m captured by the bruised mountainous wall of cloud we are now submerged in
And she stares in awe at the burnt amber illumination to our rear
From my position, it looks like a bomb has exploded up ahead
Frozen plumes of smoke fill the sky
Then we rise up and over the hill we’ve been steadily climbing
And a great expanse of clear blue sky emerges up above the now low level cloud
The world transforms in the blink of an eye
