The Courage to Be Seen

Perfectionism, like beauty, is both a blessing and a curse
Each is subjective; logic running in reverse
The sooner we embody this, the sooner we’ll be free
Of the self-effacing habit we made into a decree
Everything is perfect and imperfect, at the same time
As you pause and look closer, this truth will align
We discover beauty and perfection in all that we see
Whether it’s the vulnerability of a runt or a gnarly old tree
We call it strength of character to open up a scar
Or the courage to stand in the truth of who you are
Despite what social anxieties would have us all believe
It’s those unapologetic people who give us a reprieve
Teaching by example, they’re not ashamed to be seen
Giving us permission to walk through our own smoke screen
